When God Calls Us to Pray

Posted by Donna Dawson on July 11, 2009 at 2:28 PM

Two weeks ago I was awakened in the middle of the night by a horrendous dream.  I dreamt I was in prison.  It was a dungeon-like place and my impressions were of cold, damp darkness.  I felt great terror because I knew that soon--very soon--they would return for me and punishment would begin again.  The voices came from a distant hall and the fear in me screamed no more!  I can't take anymore!  And then I felt pain.  Ripping, searing, mind-numbing pain.  I bellowed in my agony and yet I knew that to end that agony I must deny Christ.  I have impressions of moving in and out of consciousness and with each moment of awareness I knew I had not given in.

And then I woke up and as I shook off the sleep, the name Pietra came to me.  Pray for Pietra.  He needs your prayers.  I knew that it wasn't me in the dream but this faceless man name Pietra and God was calling me to pray for him.  The rest of the night was spent on the edge of sleep, in prayer, interceding for a man I only knew through strange impressions and a name.  Pietra.

The dream faded into the obscurity of a busy day and I never thought much more of Pietra other than the occasional reminder to pray--and so I would.

Last night the dreams were there again.  Insistent.  Realistic.  And heart-pounding.  Pray for Pietra.  And I did.  So that leaves me with today.  He is still on my mind and in my prayers.  And the urge is stronger.  Pray for Pietra.  And get others to pray.  So I bring Pietra's prayer request before you and ask you to pray for him.  For his release.  For his strength in faith.  For his freedom from fear and pain.

The last time I experienced this it was over one of my daughters.  I spent that night in prayer too.  And it wasn't until some time later that this same daughter confided in me that when I had told her God had awakened me to pray for her safety that she didn't want to tell me how badly needed it was.  Through the time of prayer, she was being stalked.  What could have been a horrible and possibly deadly experience for her ended in miraculous intervention.  Knowing this, I don't take these dreams lightly.  If you feel led to pray, please do.  Thank you.

It's interesting that Pietra is very likely a feminine form of the name, and yet the character is male. (I have gathered, though, that sometimes the masc vis-a-vis fem name forms are not confined exclusively to either gender).
May the Lord strengthen you, Donna, and minister to Pietra courage, comfort, and deliverance, wherever in the world he is.

Hi Donna,

Pietra is awfully close to Pete and just a few nights ago, I had awaken in the morning hours due to a nightmare. It happened two weeks prior, too, and both nightmares were involving me in prison. The first one was I was falsely accused of rape, with the police pulling me over and the woman accusing me standing behind him. The second nightmare, I was in prison due to murder. I discussed them both briefly to a pastor and he said there may be unrepented sin. So, I went through everything I could think of against Christian people that I held a grudge against and have cleaned up shop. I think that may be it, but I'm not totally convinced.

On another note regarding your daughter, I heard a story just like that by the wife of the pastor who had dedicated me to the Lord. She had been awaken in the middle of the night by the Holy Spirit to pray for one of her twin boys (older teen, young adult at the time) who was in a situation. If I remember correctly, he was either being stalked or was in a confrontation with a homosexual.

Feel free to reply if you'd like or locate me on facebook. :)

Praise the Lord that He has a faithful prayer warrior in you. I join my prayers with yours for this man. I will also lift you up that you might have incite as to how to pray for him. After all, you are the key intercessor in this chain.

Yes, Donna,
Joining you in prayer for whomever this person is and whatever circumstances are involved.
I have no doubt at all that the Holy Spirit has alerted you to this need in the realm of the spirit (I've also experienced several 'alerts' over the years ). Amen, and Amen! to Mary's and Nikki's expressions. We are unified in the Spirit. Peter.

You are so faithful and I believe sensitive to the voice of God. I am joining with you in prayer for Pietra. Whoever this is and whatever they are facing -- that God will be glorified and honored and freedom and deliverance and peace will come to this individual in the name of Christ. Nikki

Hi Donna,

Thank you for your obedience to follow through with prayer for Pietra. I join with you coming even now against the forces of evil and bringing the shed blood of Christ against those forces. May that same powerful blood be a protection for our unknown brother. In Jesus name and with the authority given to me I pray. Amen.
