Personal Writing Goals for 2014

Posted by Donna Dawson on January 7, 2014 at 3:20 PM

blog hop for writers

Writing has always been easy for me. It should be. Any gift God gives should feel easy to do. Does that mean I shouldn't work at it? Just the opposite. When God gives a gift it is with the intention of using it for his glory.

I like to use the example of the Queen of England. Perhaps she has read one of your stories and has decided she likes your writing. Her personal assistant contacts you and gives you guidelines for a topic about which the Queen would like you to write. Do you slap something together? Probably not. Most likely you would sweat for hours over each word; each punctuation mark; each subtle innuendo.

For 2014 I have decided to set the goal for myself to write best. It's easy to try to write better. I want to write best and not just for those who read what I write. I want to write best for the One who gave me the gift to write. I want every letter to glorify Him who created each one.

Hi Donna, it's nice to meet you.

I like the way you put it. When God gives us something there should no struggle with using it. And writing to glorify His name is something I don't always do. Thanks for the reminder. Without His gift I wouldn't be able to write anyway. :-)

God bless.

Our passions are not coincidences. We keep our light under a bushel while God says, "Go forth and shine." I think this idea of writing best is a great way to offer up our passion to God.

Thanks for the reminder of who we do all this writing for--our ultimate Audience. May your writing this indeed be your best.

Thanks, Donna, for this reminder to write best as for our King. Writing is not easy for me, but I do believe it is a gift of God. I cannot do it without Him!

That's a great goal, although I'm not sure that God's gifts always feel easy. Writing has, at times, been a struggle for me, and with my current WIP, it's a HUGE struggle. I'm thankful for some deadlines (and goals!) to keep me at it. :) Thanks for sharing!

Shalom, Donna. Your message put me in mind of Psalm 45: 1 :'My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the King; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.' God bless us Christian Writers in our endeavours to make His name renowned.

Hi Donna,
Yes - to write the best that God has gifted us. And when we finally put something out there for the world to see - God knows we have done our best.
Blessings on your goal,

Donna, thanks for this reminder that God gifts us with the ability to write. Your analogy to the queen is very fitting. I too "want every letter to glorify Him who created each one."
